Conservation Tillage: Cover Crops

Berseem Clover

Photo: Berseem CloverBerseem clover is a winter annual clover, good for grazing as well as cover cropping. It is a fast-growing species and very competitive in addition to being slightly alleopathic. It attracts a beneficial predator bug in Georgia (the bigeyed bug). It tolerates close mowing and is alkaline- and saline-tolerant. Berseem produces large amounts of biomass and can fix between 100-200 lbs/A of nitrogen. It is not a self-reseeding clover and requires annual sowing.

Seed 10-25 lbs/A. September-early October.
