1.11 Alcohol and Other Drugs

It is the policy of CAES to strictly adhere to all policies set forth by the University of Georgia related to the use of alcohol and other drugs. The following policy statements are essential features:

  1. Employee misconduct related to alcohol and other drugs will not be tolerated.
  2. Being under the influence of alcohol or other drugs or consuming alcohol or other drugs during work hours is a violation of University policy, subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
  3. Unauthorized possession of alcohol or other drugs on University premises is prohibited. Any violation is subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
  4. Any employee who serves or provides alcoholic beverages in his or her official capacity is subject to the Guidelines Concerning University Events Where Alcoholic Beverages are Served or Provided.

NOTE:  Sanctions for student/employee misconduct may be more severe since they include academic dismissal in addition to termination of employment.

Related policies

  1. Any current employee charged with a crime (other than a minor traffic offense) shall report being charged with such crime to the Office of Legal Affairs within 72 hours of the employee becoming aware of such charge.  Failure to report being charged with such a crime may result in appropriate disciplinary action, including termination of employment.
  2. Any current employee shall notify the Office of Legal Affairs within 24 hours of the outcome of a criminal case.  Failure to report a conviction may result in appropriate disciplinary action, including termination of employment.
