UGA Tifton Campus graduates: Ten students graduated from Tifton Campus academic programs this spring. Graduating were Brandi Bishop, Ashley Cochran, Jamison Cruce, Christopher Earls, Kyle Harris, Blaine Holbrook, James Judson, Brittaney Schwing, Tiffany Walker and Jessica Exum Goodman.

A graduation recognition ceremony was held last Saturday, May 11 at the UGA Tifton Campus Conference Center. Speakers included Dr. Josef Broder, UGA CAES Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and Rep. Sam Watson, our alumni speaker and member of the Georgia House of Representatives. Good luck to our graduates!!

UGA Day at the UGA Tifton Campus was held recently at the UGA Tifton Campus Conference Center. Mark Richt speaks at UGA Day in TiftonThis was the first time for this event in Tifton and it turned out to be a stellar evening. This event is held at multiple locations statewide, and Tifton had the best attendance of any location with about 350 people. Executive Director of the UGA Alumni Association Debra Dietzler, Associate Provost David Williams, Bulldog football coach Mark Richt, Bulldog basketball coach Mark Fox, and media personality Chuck Dowdle hosted a lively program following an excellent meal. This also coincided with the establishment of a UGA alumni chapter in Tifton.

In addition, it was a great opportunity for Coach Richt to meet the scientists who have, and will, produce the turfs that Bulldog sports are played on, and he had a great meeting with Drs. Wayne Hanna and Brian Schwartz. Read the news release on Georgia FACES.

Dr. Erick Smith has joined the UGA Tifton Campus. Dr. Smith is a fruit specialist and a member of the Horticulture Department. Erick is located in the Hort Building. Let's welcome Dr. Smith to the UGA Tifton Campus! Learn more about Dr. Smith.

Funding for the Tift Building renovation is in the state budget for the upcoming year. This is an exciting development for the campus and we thank our legislative delegation for their hard work in making this happen. The local delegation representing Tift County consists of Senators John Crosby and Tyler Harper, and Representatives Jay Roberts, Penny Houston and Sam Watson. If you have the opportunity, thank these folks for their support of UGA Tifton. There is a lot to do before work begins (hiring architects, doing the architecture and engineering planning, bidding out the project and, finally, the actual work). This is the first step toward rebuilding the historic front of the UGA Tifton Campus.

Ag and Enviro Day at the UGA Tifton Campus was held last Thursday, May 9, and over 900 third graders were in attendance. It was a great day for the event, and energy, interest and enthusiasm were high in the students. This twice yearly event teaches children about the science behind food, water, and the environment in a fun, educational setting. Thanks to the scientists and staff who teach these programs, as well as the numerous community volunteers. There are over 40 demonstrations which occur simultaneously, so there is much to learn. UGA Tifton Campus Awards Ceremony was held on Tuesday of this week. Turnout was very good as we recognized our colleagues for years of service, awards for excellence, and a scholarship award. In addition, the Friend of the UGA Tifton Campus Award went to the Stripling Family for their long and continuing support of the Stripling Irrigation Research Park, and the UGA Tifton Campus Ambassador Award went to Unessee Hargett, Jr. for his leadership in the Plant a Row program.
