The UGA Tifton Campus Awards Ceremony was held on May 3rd at the Conference Center, giving the campus the opportunity to recognize the accomplishments of faculty and staff with awards of excellence, and years of service awards. This is a very important part of campus life and it was very rewarding to recognize some of our outstanding faculty and staff. Dean Angle was in attendance, and after the ceremony everyone enjoyed an ice cream social.

Dr. Nathan Smith and the Awards Committee did an excellent job with award selections and they encourage everyone to be thinking about nominees for next year. Teri Hughes and the Social Committee put on another tasty and visually pleasing ice cream social.

UGA Tifton Campus Graduation Recognition Ceremony was held on Sunday May 6 at the UGA Tifton Campus Conference Center. The accomplishments of twenty graduates were recognized, and this is our largest group of graduates thus far. Dean Scott Angle and Associate Dean Joe Broder were in attendance, as well a large number of family and friends of the graduates. This was an outstanding event for the graduates and for our campus. Michael Barnes was recognized with the Student MVP Award, and Michael Barnes and Audrey Davis represented the graduates with remarks to the attendees.

Ag and Environmental Awareness, Spring 2012 was held on the campus on May 10. Over 700 third graders from numerous schools and school districts were in attendance and learned from the over 40 demonstrations and presentations. It was an outstanding event, with great weather and a motivated group of students. The Ag & Enviro Committee does an excellent job organizing this event, and it is a great way to expose students, teachers and parents to so many aspects of agriculture and the environment. Thanks also go to the numerous presenters who shared their time and expertise.

The ADS First Grade Field Day was held on Thursday and Friday, May 17 and 18 at the Dairy Research Center. Over 500 first graders participated over the two day event, and enjoyed demonstrations showing dairy cow milking, cow and baby calf feeding and care, beef cow and calf care, horses, baby chicks, and aquaculture. During the event the children also enjoy an ice cream break. This program has been in place since 1987 and almost all first graders in Tift County have attended over the years. Dr. John Bernard and the ADS and Poultry Science personnel put on another successful event this year.

Have a safe and happy Memorial Day! I hope everyone enjoys their day off!
