Presentation of Property Economics Professionals:

The Georgia meeting of the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers held their Winter-Spring Meeting at the Southwest Georgia Research & Education Center in Plains on Tuesday of this week. I presented a program on the Present and Future of Branch Experiment Stations. My presentation followed one by Mr. Bobby Moss, retired former superintendent at Plains, who spoke on The History of Branch Experiment Stations. It was a great opportunity to discuss the Research and Education Centers (formerly known as Branch Stations) and the importance of the centers and staffs to the mission of the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. Following lunch, Superintendent Stan Jones toured the group around the center.

Gene Younts book signing:

Former UGA Vice President for Public Service and Outreach Gene Younts was here Thursday to sign copies of the book Back on the Bus, Twelve Hundred Miles Through Georgia, which tells the story of the new faculty tour that Gene organized and led for many UGA faculty members over the years. A number of people came out to purchase the book and to renew friendships with Gene and other colleagues. It was a good morning with a number of visitors. Gene expressed his appreciation for the turnout.

Relay for Life:

Relay for Life is tonight (Friday) at the E. B. Hamilton complex. You are welcome to come on out for one last shot at purchasing tickets for the baskets provided by various units of the Tifton Campus, and there will be an auction at the event. Visit the UGA tent (it is outstanding!) and witness the energy and excitement at the event. There is no admission charge. The event kicks off at 7:00 pm and lasts all night if you choose to stay. Thanks to UGA Tifton Campus Relay Team members: Leanne Chafin, Evelyn Folds, Teri Hughes, Duncan McClusky, April Richards, Tracey Vellidis, Ann Wiggins.

Georgia FFA 82nd State Convention:

I had the opportunity to attend the banquet for Sponsors and Award Winners as well as the opening ceremony for the 82nd Georgia State FFA Convention in Macon on Thursday evening. The opening ceremony was held before over 2000 attendees, and was an exciting, energetic event. Conducted and led by the Georgia state FFA officers, this gathering of FFA students from around the state was very impressive. The meeting will continue through mid-day Saturday, and if the opening ceremony as an indicator, will be an outstanding convention.

Tifton Campus Awards Ceremony:

Remember the Tifton Campus Awards Ceremony next week, Tuesday April 27 at 2:00 pm at the UGA Tifton Campus Conference Center. Come to support friends and colleagues as we recognize some of the outstanding people on the Tifton Campus. An ice cream social will follow the ceremony. Hope to see you there!
