Rock Eagle 4-H Center: Environmental Education

Saturday @ the Rock

Saturday at the Rock is open to participants of all ages. Each scheduled Saturday we will host a program on a different topic of interest.

Program Information:

  • Includes a visit to the newly renovated Rock Eagle Natural History Museum;
  • Programs are two hours (unless otherwise stated);
  • Admission is $3.00 for 5 years and older*, children 4 and younger are free;
  • Pre-registration required.

*Price my vary for Beginner Beekeeping, Back to School Bash, and A Night at the Thompkins

Annual Program Passes Available!

  • $30.00 for the whole year.
  • Includes admission into all Saturday at the Rock programs during 2016.

February 20th, Owl Prowl

Learn about native nocturnal wildlife as we walk trails at dusk calling these wonderful creatures. Participants will even meet a few of our resident raptors.

March 19th, Geocaching

Learn how to be a modern day treasure hunter with expert and enthusiast Rodney Jones as we explore Rock Eagle for caches.

Nature Sketch

April 16th, Nature Sketching

Join local artist, Rick Espelage as we use inspiration from nature to create works of art.

May 21st, Gardening (Seed Saving)

Dr. George Boyhan discusses how to save money and time in your vegetable garden by practicing seed saving.

June 18th, Beekeeping Basics

Expert Keith Fielder shares tips and tricks on how to start your own backyard colony while a kid friendly, junior beekeeper class, explores the wonderful world of bees and pollinators.

Tiger Salamander

July 16th, Herpetology

Beat the heat and cool off with Rock Eagle’s collection of scaly and slimy animals.

Outdoor Theater


August 6, Back to School Bash

Enjoy an evening of fun and games with a movie under the stars. Fun for the whole family. We are screening Zootopia at one of our pools. Make a splash at Rock Eagles back to School Bash!

Sampling for Critters

August 20th, Walk Your Watershed

Explore a local watershed and test its health by searching for macroinvertebrates.  Tadpoles, and dragonflies, and Crayfish oh my!

September 17th, Canoeing

Enjoy the majesty of fall by canoe as you explore Rock Eagle Lake.

Start Time: 9:30am


September 24th, Family Fishing Day

Enjoy fishing on Rock Eagle Lake with family and friends. No permit required on the GA DNR Free Fishing Days. Limited equipment available.

Cost: $5.00/ per car parking fee

Tompkins Inn


October 15th, A Night at the Tompkins Inn

The Tompkins Inn opens its doors to weary travelers on this special night. There will be time to freely roam the grounds before the Putnam Historical Society educates guests about the Tompkins' history. Music, storytelling, games, and a cozy campfire will take place as the sun sets.

Rock Eagle Mound

November 19th, Rock Eagle Hike

Experience local history with a guided Hike to the Rock Eagle Mound.
