Rock Eagle 4-H Center: Environmental Education

Saturday @ the Rock

Saturday at the Rock is open to participants of all ages. Each scheduled Saturday we will host a program on a different topic of interest.

Program Information:

  • Includes a visit to the newly renovated Rock Eagle Natural History Museum;
  • Programs are two hours (unless otherwise stated);
  • Admission ranges from $3.00-$5.00 for 5 years and older. Children 4 and younger are free;
  • Pre-registration required.

Annual Family Passes Available!

Families can enjoy all the Saturday @the Rock programs for $60.00 when they buy the Annual Family Pass. The pass is good for up to 4 people and INCLUDES the Back to School Bash!

February 18th, Scaly Slimy Spectacular

Crawl, slither, or hop on over to Rock Eagle 4-H Center and explore the wonderful world of reptiles and amphibians.

Time: 9:30-11:30AM

Cost: $3/person

March 18th, Seed Swap

Rock Eagle hosts its first ever seed swap! Gardeners from all over can network, swap seeds and share information about gardening. Learn the benifits of seeds saving, compost, and tips on seed starting.

Time: 9:30am-12:30pm

Cost: Free, Donations Appreciated

Recommended Age: 14+

April 22nd, Backyard Bird Bonanza

Identify native birds through calls and field markings. Go on a guided Bird Hike around the property to look for feathered friends. Equiptment provided.

Time: 9:30-11:30AM

Cost: $3/person

May 20th, Bees, Birds, and Butterflies: Build a Backyard Pollinator Garden

Discuss pollinators and their value with a Master Gardener. Learn how to design your garden space with pollinators in mind. This session is perfect for a beginner gardener, or those with a seasoned "green thumb".

June 18th, Beekeeping Basics

Putnam County Extension Agent, and beekeeping expert Keith Fielder discusses beekeeping basics, and offers advice on how to start and maintain your very own colony. Join us for this un-bee-lieavably informative session. Recommended ages 14 and up.

Time: 9:30-Noon

Cost: $5/person

Recommended Age: 16+

What a Tuesday at the office looks like.

July 22nd, Sailing 101

Rock Eagle is excited to offer Sailing 101 this summer. Designed for beginners who want to learn the basics of sailing. Participants will get to explore the lake in one of our Sailboats. Great for all ages. Reserve your spot now for this one of a kind Saturday @the Rock program.

August 5th, Back to School Pool Party

Fun for the whole family. Make a splash at Rock Eagles back to School Bash! Take an exciting trip down the water slide, catch some evening rays on the pool deck, or float with friends!

Lifeguards will be on duty.

August 19th, Canning

Join us as we learn about food preservation from an expert!

Time: 9:30-11:30AM

Cost: $5/person

September 23rd, Family Fishing and Canoe

Celebrate National Hunting and Fishing Day on Rock Eagle Lake with family and friends. No fishing permit required. Don’t know how to fish? No problem! Rock Eagle Environmental Educators will be on site to help bait hooks, and share knowledge about the sport.

Enjoy games, crafts, and the chance to meet some of Rock Eagle’s animal ambassadors. Participants will also have the opportunity to explore the lake in our canoes.

Advanced registration is required. Limited number of fishing poles will be available, so experienced fishermen are encouraged to bring their own.
